PURVIS — Violent crime doesn’t discriminate with age. A two of inmates have been sentenced to life in prison for killing a 95-year-old woman. James Martin and David Bass plead guilty Friday, prosecutors tried for the death penalty.

The two inmates were on the run after escaping from the Mississippi Department of Corrections Work Center when they killed Ada Smith last year in Purvis. She was found dead, tied up with shoestrings and stabbed in the throat.

Martin and Bass were found in New Orleans by State Marshals in New Orleans after taking Smith’s 1993 Buick Century.
