Appeal Denied, Again: Williams to Stay in Prison for Shooting at Deputy

Anthony Williams

NATCHEZ, Miss.–If you live in southwest Mississippi, you might be glad this guy is staying in. Trying to get out of prison on a technicality is not working for Anthony Donnell Williams, who tried to shoot a deputy back in 2006. For now, he’ll keep on serving a 30-year prison sentence.

Williams tried in 2009 to get out of his conviction by saying there was a problem with his indictment by the grand jury. The judge in Adams County said no deal. This week the state Court of Appeals agreed with the judge.

Williams was convicted of aggravated assault on an officer after he knocked a deputy to the ground and got ready to shoot him with a pistol. Perhaps the only reason that deputy is alive is because the gun misfired.

Williams was caught after a high-speed chase where cops had to shoot out his tire.
