Bryant Vetoes Bill Giving Reservoir Area More Local Power

JACKSON, Miss. — Governor Bryant has cast a veto, shutting down a bill that would have given the Pearl River Valley Water Supply District more local power at the Ross Barnett Reservoir. The bill would have allowed the district to collect revenue from tickets handed out on the property, and would have given them the power to provide local services such as utility services, police, fire, and street maintenance.

Bryant said he was concerned the bill would give unlimited taxing authority to an unelected board.
