JACKSON, Miss.–In what can only be described as bizarre, a Jackson Zoo animal was killed overnight Tuesday by a pack of wild dogs.
“In the early morning Tuesday, we had one klipspringer attacked by three wild dogs,” said Jackson Zoo spokesman Angela Shepard.
A klipspring can be seen in the picture and is described as a goat-like animal.
“We caught one of them and the other two were dispersed when our security team came upon them,” she said.
Even more baffling at this point is that it isn’t known how they were able to enter the park after hours.
Shepard said all gates were closed and the fences have been checked twice.
She hypothesized that is could be possible that they dug under an outer fence and were able to gain access to the park.
“There is no danger to the public though,” urged Shepard.
In closing she said the zoo is very saddened by the loss of the klipspringer.
