RIDGELAND, Miss. — C Spire has officially started putting in fiber optic cable in Ridgeland for its first statewide 1 gigabit-per-second Fiber To the Home project.

“We are so excited about finally getting this infrastructure in the ground here in Ridgeland,” said Mayor Gene McGee at a Thursday press conference.

C Spire believes the service will begin this summer.  McGee said having internet that’s 100 times faster will offer countless benefits for residents.  “It’s gonna increase their property value and make people want to live it.  It’s gonna increase the opportunity for people to have home businesses.  And I can just see, you know, education from home, all the things that are handicap because of buffering, all that’s going to be eliminated.”

In the first phase of the Fiber To the Home project, C Spire anticipates building 4,600 miles of fiber cable and spending millions of dollars to get the rapid home broadband up and running in Ridgeland and eight other Mississippi cities, including Batesville, Corinth, Hattiesburg, Quitman and Starkville.
