Picayune Boy Hit by Vehicle Dies: Toxicology Report Still Out

PICAYUNE, Miss.–A vehicle/bike collision last week in Picayune has now left an 8-year-old boy dead.

The accident occurred on April 16th according to Picayune assistant police chief Jeremy Magri and   8-year-old Keanu Carraway was pronounced dead on April 18th at a New Orleans children’s hospital.

Evidently Carraway tried to cross the street on his bike and was hit by an SUV driven by 52-year-old Francis Burge.

Magri said that Burge has been charged with driving with an expired license, no insurance proof, and possession of a controlled substance that was found in the vehicle.

More serious charges are possible depending on what toxicology reports say though.

“At this time [the sample] has been sent to the Mississippi crime lab with a rush order to get it back,” he said.  “We’re now waiting to get them back.”

It is standard when violent injuries occur because of a motor vehicle to draw blood of the driver to assure no substances played a role in the wreck.
