Wreck Claims Valley Football Player, Other Players Hurt

ITTA BENA, Miss.–A car carrying Mississippi Valley State University football player Kevin Monzon ran off the road and flipped several times near Itta Bena Thursday, killing the sophomore placekicker and injuring several other players.

The Miss. Highway Patrol confirmed the IDs Friday morning. Monzon was from Crystal Springs. The wreck happened on Hwy. 82 about 8 p.m. Exactly how it happened is still under investigation.

There were three other players in the car. The most seriously hurt was Marcus Thompson of Houston, Texas. He’s a linebacker for the team. He’s being treated at University Medical Center in Jackson.
